New Year: Please Do the Following ASAP

So here we are in 2014.  This is an odd year for me even though it is an even number.  I’m just saying I never really looked ahead and thought how I would be living in 2014.  But to be fair to 2014 I never really ever thought about any years beyond the age of 25.  I’m 31 and you can say that I’m taking things day to day at this point.

However, being the discerning young man that I am, I’ve identified some fairly simple and effective things that a man should do each year to get his life started out on the right track.

1. Replace Your Underwear

Whatever the reason, fellas tend to hang on to their undergarments far too long.  Men tend to have a good pile and a bad pile.  The bad pile is kept for emergency purposes (not doing laundry the past two weeks).  How about this get rid of the bad pile totally and take $25-$40 and invest in some nice underwear and T-shirts.  I find shopping at outlets to be ideal for these types of purchases.  Trust me this is a sound investment.  You will feel more dignified each day knowing that your manhood is well-adorned.

2. Open Up a Savings Account

Everyone has the goal of saving more money during the New Year.  Typically this won’t happen unless you set up a system for saving money.  If you have a savings account that is easily accessible (i.e. ATM, Debit card) chances are you won’t fair much better in 2014.  Try this instead. Open up a savings account, preferably at a local credit union (support local), across town with no ATM access.  Directly deposit a set amount into that account each pay period.  The idea is to make it extremely difficult to have to withdraw money from that account.  You might not be as likely to make impulsive withdraws if you know you have to drive across town and go inside the back to get your money.

3. Schedule Time to Talk with the Women in Your Life

I don’t mean your girlfriend or wife.  That is a given.  But I’m talking mother, grandmother, sisters, or aunts.  These women will appreciate it dearly.  It will make their year and trust me it will only add to your year as well.  These 15-20 minutes discussion will also benefit you in another area.  YOUR OWN PERSONAL LOVE LIFE.  I still don’t understand women.  Any man who claims he does is a lie.  But I know how to talk to them because of many conversations I’ve had with my Mother.

4. Donate Stuff

You have far too much stuff.  I say that without knowing some of you personally.  But the fact that personal storage spaces are popping up everywhere and none of my neighbors park their cars in the garage let’s me know we have too much stuff.  So in order to de-clutter and feel better about yourself give some things away.  The local Salvation Army, Goodwill, and consignment shops are great places to start.  Parking your car in the garage is actually really nice and convenient.

5. Read & Write More (Support Fresh Demeanor)

I’m going to plug reading more on Fresh Demeanor.  But the guys and I are challenging ourselves to write way more as well.   Then I challenge the readers to comment more as well.  Then we’ll be one big old happy family like the Cosby’s and Walton’s.
