I still remember the excitement I felt when I graduated from high school. It was quite an accomplishment. Then I experienced the pure joy of receiving my bachelor’s degree after much hard-work and determination. I was now in a position to have a decent job and take care of myself and maybe even a family. The achievement of this accomplishment brought along a great sense of relief. But I soon realized that although I was no longer sitting in a classroom my education and studies were far from over. I had to continue to study to get better at my job. Promotions aren’t just handed out because. You cannot possibly understand the amount of hours I spent researching when I was in the process of buying my first home. This research proved invaluable as it was 2006 and I had enough knowledge to resist pressure fromn the bank to sign up for an adjustable rate mortgage (ARM). The housing bubble bursts less than a year later but I was in a good position with my fixed rate. It was quite evident the only way to succeed was to continue to study and research on my own. The more I began to read and research successful individual past and present I found they were all active students throughout life. They were constantly learning. They took time away from television, social media, and partying it up with friends to study, mediate, and apply their newfound knowledge. I’m currently reading the autobiography of Richard Branson. It is clear that he is an avid scholar. He has the resources to hire people to tell him answers but he looks for them himself. In the Bible, the most successful kings of ancient times were the ones who studied the most and applied that knowledge. In fact a king was expected to read and study the law every day he was alive.
It goes beyond taking out college loans, basically being poor for four years, and sitting in lectures where you question your choice of education. It is more of a commitment you make with yourself to forever be a student and acquire as much knowledge as possible. Class is over but we’re forever students. If you don’t see it that way then maybe you’re not actually living.
