10 Things Every Man Should Own By Age 30

I am now a 30 year old man.  It feels comfortable, stable, and I might add established.  It is not as if there is not more to learn, we are all forever students, but I have a class of my own I can now teach.  That is the way it should be.  What’s life without progression?  Here are 10 things every man should own by age 30 to continue that progression:

  1. Passport. You are going places and you have been places.  You are are a jetsetter.  As you travel it is no longer just about the beach, drinks, and clubs.  But you are there to experience culture.
  2. Tailored Suit. The suit has become a staple of professionalism and sophistication.  We still wear a suit when we worship, have an interview, or attend occassions such as a wedding.  But it is all in the fit now.  No more just wearing it off the rack.  But if the suit is not made for you it should be altered to your measurements. Precision.
  3. Toolbox. You may not be a handy man.  But you should own the basics a screwdriver, hammer, and socket wrenches.  Learn to use the tools you have.  However, never shy away from making the necessary call to the repairman.
  4. Grooming Kit It should never take you more than 30 minutes to get ready for the day.  The goal is to at all times present yourself in a dignified manner.  You should be well groomed.  The body should smell fresh.  Your neck, nose, mustache, and beard should be neat.  Nails are trimmed.
  5. Property.  There are lot of variables that come into play when we talk about home ownership.  But that is not exactly what is meant by property.  Vehicles, timeshares, and other assets in which you can put your name on classify as property.  Never borrow more than you are capable of paying back.  But if at all possible own it.
  6. Literature. We are talking about literature which dispenses wisdom and discernment.  There have no doubt been hard knocks along the way.  But through the words and experiences of others think how much you have been able to avoid.  Your bookshelf should contain insightful and meaningful references you can always draw upon.  Reflection.
  7. Cookbook.  Hopefully we had the opportunity to learn the basics from Mama.  But we need to continue to eat and eat well.  You may not be Bobby Flay all on your own but you can learn a dish or two.
  8. Wallet.  I mean a decent wallet.  No velcro.  No faux-leather.  No bulky object that makes it seems as if you’re growing a tumor.  It should be slim, leather, and contain the essentials: ID, a credit card, pic of the pretty young thang in your life, and cash.  You may even prefer to carry a cardholder for cards and money clip for cash.  The one I carry even has a bottle opener which has been quite handy.
  9. Good Shoes.  I know sneakerheads are everywhere.  Sneakers definitely have there place.  But do not overlook the power of a nice pair of leather wingtips, suede bucks, or comfortable loafers.  These shoes are just as comfortable and definitely give you the grown man look.
  10. His Style. In the end be you.  Put your own unique spin on whatever you doing.  It’s all in your demeanor.  May your demeanor be fresh.
