I attended my first Whiskey Tasting in Bexley, Ohio at Barrel 44. I certainly recommend it as destination if you are in the vicinity and you’re looking for a rustic, communal environment to have drink. The whiskey tasting was a showcase of the Woodford Reserve offerings. The experience was great. Did you know that there are such people as Whiskey Ambassadors? Whiskey Pete was my Whiskey Ambassador and he introduced my palate to several Woodford Reserve bourbons and entertained the group with the wonderful history of the bourbon distilling business. But the highlight and the greatest sensation my palate experienced was during the tasting of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked bourbon. Woodford Reserve Double Oaked as the name suggests is twice-barreled. It was absolutely fantastic. The aroma was like brown sugar and vanilla. The taste was of caramel and the texture was rich, smooth, and slightly thicker. I would certainly drink this neat maybe with an ice cube or two.
