You’ll see this phrase popping back up across Twitter and other sites in a couple weeks. A little judgmental, yes, but it’s hilarious at the same time. People all over the country who seemingly have no business investing in a $200 pair of sneakers, will do just that. Honestly, I’m including everyone under that umbrella since no basketball shoe should be that much. Yet for different reasons we will still do it.
I’ve had a few pairs of Jordan’s in my lifetime, even when I was a kid. So my nostalgia for certain shoes means something to me. Either it’s, I had them and I want them again or I never got a chance to rock’m and I got the chance now. That’s what happened last year when the Concords came back out. I had to get’em. I remember being in the 7th grade at the breakfast table seeing them for the first time on this fat kid. F what you heard the 11’s are the rawest hoop shoe ever. Forget how you feel about them today, now that everybody got’em. I’m talkin’ bout when they first hit the streets. I’m willing to bet my last Super Donut (cuz that’s what we ate for breakfast back then) there wasn’t any other pair upon first release that you coveted more if you were of the age to care enough. Me personally the only ones to compete would be the Hares or the 7’s what ever you wanna call them and the Blue n Grey 13’s. Other than that it’s debatable that a bunch of the other Jordan’s even LOOK good. I won’t find anyone to admit it though. In fact as a collection just based off looks, I think the Penny’s are a better group of shoes. But I’ll let that argument live to fight another day.
I bring all this up because at the end of the month the Black and Red 11’s come back out and I’ll be forced to make life decisions. Enthusiasts alongside hypebeasts with no real connection and self-christened sneakerheads in every hood will stand up, unite, lose sleep and maybe even their lives to grab a pair. The thirst is real. I hope you got a connect at the mall or you get your clicks up in case you gotta order them online. Otherwise you’ll be IN line like its Black Friday. I can’t fault anyone because at the end of the day you’re just trying to keep your demeanor fresh, and what’s messin with that?
