We here at FD thought that it’s only right to share with the world some of the talented people we know who take pride in providing a fresh demeanor. Today we will introduce you to Alicia of Berlynn Designs.
From custom handmade men’s and women neck wear down to clothes for the wee ones, Berlynn is sure not to disappoint. I recently purchased a matching bow tie set for my son and I was surely impressed.
Fellas be sure to check out the site here, and if you don’t find what you’re looking for I’m pretty sure it can be created for you. For now though, let’s meet the creator behind the clothes.
1. How long have you been designing custom articles?
I opened Berlynn Designs in 2008
2. What made you want to initially design your own clothing?
I have always been more of a creative person. I enjoy making things. I married my husband in 2007. Well, there came a time shortly after we were married that I HATED my job. I needed a release to help me deal with the stress. At the same time, my husband found a sewing machine on clearance. He did not know I even knew how to sew but he asked if he should buy it for me. I was so excited! My grandmother was a seamstress, and growing up I watched her turn fabric into beautiful garments.
One day my husband made a comment in passing about wanting to make his own ties. I took that idea and ran with it. Before I knew it, I had taken apart one of his old ties to see how it was constructed. The rest is kind of history. From there I began making handbags, neckties and eventually developed the Lady Tie.
3. What is your favorite item to make for men/women/children?
For men I love making neckties. I try to find different and interesting fabrics or mixing fabrics to make a different look. For women, it depends on my mood. If I am sewing just for myself I love making a nice dress. For my female customers, the Lady Tie; there is just something about a woman dressed in a professional manner. For children, I started off only making baby bibs and little man ties. I love making those. They are so cute and little and sometimes it’s hard to find a tie you like for the little guys. However, my sister just had her first child and I have just started to dabble in making little dresses for her… I think I have found a new love!
4. What’s the most challenging and rewarding aspect of what you do?
The most challenging thing is finding the time to devote to my craft. I do work a full-time job that is pretty far from home. It becomes increasingly more difficult to find time to really work on an intricate piece. The most rewarding aspect is happy customers. I have had the pleasure of working with a few brides and to see the pictures on their wedding day, and know that my work was a part of such a special day is so very exciting!
5. What does having a fresh demeanor mean to you?
Just doing you! I have what some call a unique style and way of dress. I am daring with my style. I mix prints and unexpected colors, I dress boldly. Some say “I love how you dress but I could never wear that”. My response is always; “Yes you can, but you can’t try to do exactly what I have done. Make your own style!” So many people feel they have no style but you can’t pick your style off a rack in a store or off the mannequin. Fresh Demeanor is about YOU, and why YOU feel Fresh!
